Great find, congrats to gettinold.

'Found a great stamp' threads can be a double edge sword.

On the upside they can encourage the rest of us that even after 10s (or even 100s) of other collectors/dealers have looked through the same material that we are looking at today, that something has slipped through undetected. The down side is that it encourages treasure hunting, can set unrealistic expectations, and can lead to 'confirmation bias' if collectors begin to start their identification process with the belief that they have rarities.

Our hobby has many good things about it that we can assure others that philately can deliver; i.e. learning about other countries, cultures, and history just to name one. But we cannot assure anyone that they will find a valuable stamp or rarity.

Gettinold,
1. Congratulations! What an incredible find!
2. I am jealous.
3. Do you intend to keep it, or are you planning to sell it?

Were you thinking of this new Z-grill thread 51Studebaker? Wondered if he had one US 85A (Cat. $3,000,000.00 used) on cover (Cat: Unknown, never recorded item):

Thinking of the literally hundreds of previous threads that are similar to the Z grill thread you link directly above.

If we were all art collectors would we encourage other folks to become art collectors based upon the chance that they might one day find a painting by a master in a garage sale or would we tout the intrinsic happiness that art can offer?

Wow this is what collecting is all about. Some people are just happy to match the picture they have in their album without looking any further. And then there are the other ones who will go the extra mile just in case...

Great find!
