I have a used copy of what I believe is a 93. The left margin is straight like a scissor cut. You can see the design of the stamp beside with no perfs in between. I guess perfs could have been there farther to the left and cut off, but that would mean they were very far apart in the first place. And, why cut them? Any ideas?

thanks

It's called a straddle pane.

The sheet was cut into two panes (left, right) and you have a straddle-pane margin copy (your stamp being the left-most stamp on the right pane).

Thanks for the info. It doesn't look like Scotts mentions this in their Introduction. Maybe it does and I just have to read more carefully...

The position you have is R1 (right pane, first position).

I like straddle pane stamps at times. I used to have this Scott 100 in my collection. It was one way to get good margins on this issue.
