Sweden 1972 Century art - 6v in booklet FDC The stamps, all engraved by Czeslaw Slania, depicts Gustavian art paintings. Gustavian style was the leading style in Swedish architecture, decor and crafts during the Gustavian era, inspired by French Neoclassicism. The style was established in the 1780s, and is named after King Gustav III of Sweden. The detached stamp depicts the painting 'The lady with the veil', from Alexander Roslin (1718-1793), a swedish artist who worked in Scania, Bayreuth, Paris, Italy, Warsaw and St. Petersburg, primarily for members of aristocratic families. Cuba 1973 Masterworks paintings of Museo Santiago Cuba - 7v The $3 stamp depicts a work from Juan Pantoja de la Cruz (1553 - 1608), one of the best representatives of the Spanish school of court painters. He worked for Philip II and Philip III from Spain. Margarete from Austria (1584 - 1611), queen os Spain, married to Philip III, was retrated in various paintings from Juan Pantoja and here she is holding a fan in left hand.  |
