Collecting US Bureau definitives I'm finding that I have a LOT of precancels. I'm struggling with organization. I'm not one to build albums, I prefer to organize on stock pages.
So, do folks organize by City, State, Precancel type....?
I'm kind of the odd man out on organizing precancels. I collect stamps first and foremost, I collect issues in as many formats as I can. Sheet, Plate Bloc, P#Single, single, etc. mint, used, booklet panes, coil strips depending on the issue and how it was made available.
I don't concentrate on cancels but I have a huge collection of precancels that I have organized in my albums by issue, in the pages immediately following that issue in my albums. They are organized by issue, then state and city. Integrated all the way through my albums Likewise with Perfins by issue.
I would suggest using the free resources at the PSS site (Styles, album pages, etc.) and then work it out on your own. I'm finding that my meagre collection doesn't warrant printing out all the pages. I am just looking at what I have and what I can get from auctions, other collectors, trades and then when I have enough from one city for a specific precancel type and issue (e.g. prexies), then I'll arrange them out in mounts on a blank album page and put it together. Your mileage may vary.
