Ux10 Advising: Pick Up Your World's Columbian Exposition Tix And Bring Your Stock Certificate For ID

First my questions. Is this an easy or hard item to find? Is used considered better?



I look at lots of "philatelic stuff" most chances I get. Should my "this is interesting radar" go off, I look a bit more carefully and often buy it if I can figure what it is, or it is something I rarely or never see. Well today I spotted this goodie.

I don't really chase postcards, nor do I do much with Columbian stamp postal history nor the Exposition postal cards. I even have a commercial $1 dollar solo cover to Europe, proper rate, I am trying to off load.

What strikes me as interesting for this card, is the requirement you bring your STOCK CERTIFICATE as identification to pick up your full run of tickets for the World's Columbian Exposition.

Can someone post a scan of the stock certificates?

This UX10 is also the same style of card used for the many Columbian picture postal cards sold and used at and away from the fair.

Normally the seller's items don't move much past the one cent open until a few hours before the items close. This however has hit about $25 in the first six hours after listing. While I have not seen one, I gather Columbian specialist have.

A.F Serberger was the fair committee treasurer, and this was probably a perk for helping finance the fair.

Even though annotated at $75, I'm thinking it would be more interesting if used, to see who the patron of the fair it would have been sent to.

I can't say for sure, but I suspect the stock certificates, which many patrons kept as souvenirs rather than turning them in, entitled the holder to a certain number of tickets. So it makes sense that you'd have to show proof of ownership.

Clearly it's a valuable card - I've never seen one before. Imho, it would be more interesting if it were used, but it's entirely possible that this is the only surviving example.

Not unique. I have a mint copy of the postal card too. Dealer price marked on it was $15. I think it came in a bulk lot as I would not have purchased it separately.

Mint vs used: Where you stand depends on where you sit. I can see the Columbian Expo collector preferring a mint example unsullied by any postal markings. I can see a postal history collector insisting it be used.
