Albania 2008 Landscapes
The 26 km long Osum Canyon is located in southern Albania. It is created by the erosive and solvent forces of Osum River, exerted on the limestone rock formations of the Çorovoda anticline structure, over the lase 2 to 3 million years.

Greece 2019 Centenary of Mount Olympus First Ascent
Mount Olympus is part of the Olympus massif near the Thermaic Gulf of the Aegean Sea. It comprises mainly Upper Triassic limestone which was uplifted by tectonic forces. Ice Age glaciation created much of the present-day topography.

Milos and the nearby islands belong to Aegean Volcanic Arc, formed by the subduction of the African plate under the Aegean area. Landforms such as columnar joints in dacite and basalt formations are common on these islands.

Pamukkale is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey. The area is famous for travertine terrace formations precipitated from thermal spring water.

Cyprus 2017 European Capital of Culture
Aphrodite's Rock stands on the southwest coast of the Pafos district. This large limestone block of Late Triassic age is the remnant of an olistostrome deposit transported here during Late Cretaceous.

Cyprus 2015 Landscapes
Avakas Gorge is located on the Avakas River at the western end of Cyprus. The 3 km long gorge is known for its narrow space between steep limestone walls up to 30 meters in height.

Lebanon 1966 Landscapes
Pigeons Rock stand just off the coast of Raouché, Beirut. They are the remnants of a Cretaceous limestone formation which slumped into the sea and eroded by wind and wave.

Greece 2015 Volcanoes of Greece
The island of Nisyros is a stratovolcano at the eastern end of the Hellenic island arc. The volcano is currently active but not erupting, and fumaroles are found inside its caldera. The ground is hot and is covered by tiny sulfur crystals.

Reqqa Point is located on the northern coast of the island of Gozo. The small coralline limestone cape has an elevation of 6 meters and drops to a depth of 17 to 25 meters underwater.
