Very high catalogue value, but I guess they are false?

Chances that you have two of these (Sassone 1, Scott 17) mint, with CV $8000, is pretty unlikely to put it mildly.

If you can't tell genuine from fake, then the person that printed them did their job!

There are definite differences between these two but that again can be legit too depending on plates... You need to find a high res photos/scans of a legit example to compare them. Might try one of the larger auction house catalogs or societies to see if you can get one.

These are Sardinia stamps from the last 1863 printing. They have privately done perforations. (Sassone 14E) .They go around for 15-20$ a piece..
if they have original gum.
Italy 1 has perf 11.5 x 12.

I was disappointed, looking forward to an detailed explanation
of these issues in

VADE MECUM
Du
Specialist-Expert
Fernand Serrane

Alas! only the Cavallini were listed, and then in a page missing.

As Serrane poetically put it......

each island signalled by the watchman
is an eldorado promised by fate
The imagination that sets up its orgy
find only a reef in the morning light.
