So, lately I've been moving towards duck stamps. I guess like a lot of people, I'm drawn by their beauty. For me mint is called for in this area.

Anyway I was researching things as usual, and I came across this trailer on YouTube for a documentary "The Million Dollar Duck." (2016) It's about several artists competing in the duck stamp contest. I never heard of this film. It's for rent on Amazon. Anyway, looked kind of interesting.

Hello.
Could someone point me to a thread on this topic here.
I'm not good at searching, the language barrier.
Thanks in advance.
Regards.

Hello Roberto59,
When you say "topic", do you mean the topic of federal duck stamps in general? On this site, at the top of the page there is a "search" button. Click that, and type "duck stamps" in the search bar. Hit <enter>. This will basically return all posts in the forums which mention duck stamps. Then you can browse those threads. Note that some ads come first. I am assuming that you can read English.

I can understand that the language barrier is an issue. If I were facing a website in Catalan I might try to get one key word for my topic in English first, and try to translate it into Catalan and see if that worked.
Hope that helps.

Building on Roberto's post, I agree, it is often hard to find past threads. So many threads on this (and other) boards would be improved by having very specific and on-topic titles. It improves readership now and findability many months later. why not a title of:

"Link to video on U.S. Duck stamp contest"

Quite a few of the topical titles are attempts at being "cute" but they are not intuitive for searching/finding. (end of rant!)

Yes, I've found that the nature of forums makes this true. Improved topic descriptions would no doubt help. After finding a universe of your topic posts, better titles would help people find what they want.
It's speculative as to whether the community could all cooperate in that regard. Or, what one person thinks is a "good" title.

Before I even posted about "The Million Dollar Duck", I did a general search first. Not finding anything, then I posted. That's the other thing: Many of us (myself included I'm sure) post about something that's already been asked and answered. Invariably we have potentially many threads with the same topic.

"Million Dollar Duck" is a well-done movie. And can be enjoyed by non-stamp collectors as well. Tells a good story.

This is just a "The More You know" post. I've been a closet artist for decades, that is how I know of this.

The Duck Stamp contest every year is one of the most sought after wins any nature/wildlife artist can achieve. The prize is less about the money and more about the achievement. Kind of like winning a Gold Medal at the Olympics. It means nothing, other than to your peers and the people who promote you, that you were/are really good at what you did. This is a prestigious award in that sense. Most of these artists who participate aren't stamp collectors or hunters. To win this annual contest is basically the pinnacle achievement of todays painting world. It is insanely competitive, and they promote it that way also.

Just an FYI

I agree 100%. The beauty of these stamps is hard to beat. I appreciate the paintings too, because I paint as well. I'll admit it: I'm a huge Bob Ross fan. It's fun and relaxing. Right now though, after that documentary, BRI is leaving a very bad aftertaste. I may have to switch to Gamblin paint, or maybe Alexander paint. Anyone else around here who paints Bob Ross/alla prima will know what I mean. But I digress.
