Yes signature comparisons are tricky. Certainly one needs to examine very closely to differentiate a forged signature from a genuine one on a piece of artwork, for instance. But if a forgery is not the issue, then there is a recognition that a person's signature can vary over time, and there is quite a lot of variety.
