I am so glad I found this forum. I have been going through my mother's old stamp collection, and there's a ton of them! I hope I have found a place where I can find good and honest info to help me with this. Mom passed away 7 year's ago. I believe she started collecting stamps in the early 60's. She kept notes and info on most of the stamps but I don't understand most of it. I am wanting to find out if she has any that are rare and the worth of the stamps. I would truly appreciate any help in doing so. Thank you!

Welcome aboard. There is a wealth of collective knowledge on this forum related to all aspects of philately. The most useful way to get an assessment as to what you have is to post representative images of your mother's collection. The more you show, the better forum members will be able to guide you. |

Welcome to SCF BP0909.
A bit more info on the collection would be helpful. Is the collection just US 1960s+ or what? The the stamps used or unused?
If it is just 1960s US going forward to 2015 or so, it is unlikely you have any rare or valuable stamps.

Thank you for your replies. There are thousands of stamps and I just got started so I'm not sure what all she had. I've found some dated back as far as 1920's. They aren't in any kind of order. They're in envelopes mostly, not albums. She has put the catalog number on a lot of them and perf numbers and types plus other notes that I'm not sure what they mean yet. I will post some pics of some.

When ou post pictures, please start with the ones you think are the oldest and/or the higher denominations. They are likely to get the interest

BP0909, Enjoy your mom's collection as she did. It probably is worth more to you for the family ties as a family treasure than it is in the marketplace. Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. Russ |

Welcome BPO909.
We're looking forward to seeing a scan or two of what you might have.
It might be helpful to give us a scan of the envelope, too, when you post the scan of the stamp itself, so we can see what sort of numbering, notes, and such were being used to identify the stamps.... At least at the start of your adventure grappling with this collection. Best wishes. |
