Hi,
I'm new to the board and am looking for some information. I received some odds and ends from someone who was getting rid of a spouse's collection and one of the items is an unused envelope, U617 with the space hologram. I looked in Scott's and saw there was a color error but as I understand that is a 'missing' color where the 29¢ does not appear. The envelope that I have, the 29¢ is in green. All the pictures I have seen the correct color, ultramarine, is what appears to me as a blue-green. My envelope is very green. I wondered if I should send it for expertizing since there is a fee involved and I don't know if it could be worthwhile.

Any suggestions/information would be appreciated.

You may have the wrong envelope. U617 is 25 cents and blue. U625 is 29 cents and green. They both have very similar holograms.

Dave, one of the things to get confusion out of the way is to post a picture of the object in question!
And welcome to the forum!

pbmorris - You saved me some $$ and certainly more embarrassment. I did make the mistake of not looking closely enough in the catalog. It is the 29¢ #U625 and rightfully green. Thanks again. And thanks to the welcomes from others.

There are some amazingly knowledgeable members of this forum on all aspects of philately. They can guide you, not only as to what you have, but whether shelling the expense of certifying in the overall scheme of things is likely to your advantage.

divemfast,

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. Russ

Dave, that is what is so good about this forum. I tend to overthink stamps that look like anomalies. Re-perforations and trimming perforations are usually what gets me, and the experts here are quick to set me straight.
