Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. |

Hi Linus - I really like the used blocks. My Aunt had quite a few in the bundle she gave me. Not sure if it is collected, but I like the juxtaposition of an "older" stamp on a recent cover - in particular if it shows the date clearly - it's Old meets New. |

Nice one! That particular Lincoln stamp always looks good in a block.

That's interesting. I never considered those specific things! I can see why one would collect them though now that you mention it. |

Ok question.. I've seen people talking about modern New Zealand but I don't understand why people would ignore or dislike it? Is there something wrong with modern New Zealand? It's like an inside joke I don"t get haha |

From the mid-1990's to the present, most countries (including New Zealand) have emitted/issued far more stamps than postal (and philatelic, imo) demand dictates. This includes completely unnecessary items such as souvenir sheets and other contrived varieties. I gave up on New Zealand around 1998; it was just too much.
Stamp collectors are ideal for postal systems. They prepay for a service (increase revenue) and then don't use the service in many cases (mint only collectors). |

It's the reason I stopped collecting U.S. stamps in 1993. That was as far as my album went at the time, I saw the coming of endless self-adhesive stickers and I had no interest in collecting those and, as another collector that I know once said, when you can buy a U.S. #1 for less than the annual year set of U.S. stamps, something is seriously wrong.
I'm not in this to buy stickers, I'm in it to buy stamps that are intended for postal use. Most U.S. stamps aren't, therefore I don't bother with them anymore. |

Oooh, I get it! I've seen lots of those types of things. I don't mind a souvenir sheet if it's really interesting, but some are very silly and obviously unnecessary. I can see how some may hate them, and others may love them. And a bunch of common overproduced stamps that people keep getting multiples of is rather annoying. I guess stamp collectors are easy prey.
I don't think I'll even attempt to collect a whole country. At least not at this point in life. For now, I'm doing topical and anything that catches my eye or tells a story. I'm overwhelmed just thinking about a whole country haha! Though I've learned I should never say never.. |

...then there is used blocks of six: ...I've also got a few used four-corner plate-number singles to show, but haven't scanned them yet. ~Al |
