Hi. Got this Austrian stamps and noticed one number wrongly printed. Was that common mistake, does that mean all series were facing same mistake? How can something like that happen during production?
Thanks

The year date is not upside down. The date is the year that the city of Rottenmann was founded, 1279. I wonder if this was the printer being cute?

I checked 2 Austrian specialized catalogues and they made no note of it. It might be a transient one.

Bingo! (I think)
I have that same stamp, with inverted 9
I see some time ahead, searching for that in my database.

My queries were never answered.

Found it!
It was EXACTLY the same stamp, you must have posted the image in 2003 (23rd September) and I looked through my collection.

WOW, thanks.
I might have posted this scan few years ago (almost 20 ) but I can't remember any reply on that topic.

...and here they are

I checked everywhere, (and still check my Austria when they arrive)

I think yours is genuine, but astounded they have not been recorded elsewhere.

<I have that same stamp, with inverted 9>
It's not an "inverted 9" An inverted 9 would simply be a 6, but this number looks like a 6 that has been reversed right to left, ie a mirror image, so the number has been both inverted AND flipped over. Since engravers have to do all their work in reverse when making printing plates, possibly he/they (O. Zeiller and A. Nefe) just got confused here?

What a great piece especially since it is a part of a pair with one normal example. You could have something pretty darn good there.
