See this censored double rate Prexie airmail cover to Argentina from March 8, 1944. It doesn't have the familiar censor tape on the left but it has a small censor form attached.

Who can tell more about this form? It has Form nr OC-270. It's not on the list of US postal forms as published on the USSS website. I have never seen it before.

I show frontside and backside of the cover.

It is NOT a USPS postal form. It is a US civilian censorship form.

The standard reference for this field is Broderick & Mayo "Civil Censorship in the United States During World War II", 1980.

This label is not listed there, but the Civil Censorship Study Group quarterly bulletin has listed many new labels.

The Examiner number "15004", shown on the label is from the Office of the New York Cable Censor. This makes sense given the return address.

The "1559" in the small rectangle with rounded corners is an Argentine censor mark.

Very nice cover.
Mike

A very nice cover to a war neutral country between two Jewish news organizations.

Nice cover.

I have been keeping a database of this label, with the help of several other CCSG postal historians. I have, so far, recorded 30 genuine uses and one fake (label added to cover post-war).
