Unless it was found as a pair, it has to be thought of as a trimmed perforated stamp. |

Aren't the margins too wide to be trimmed? On the other hand, in my simple online resources, I see no mention of a coil version of this stamp. |

Remember, images on the screen appear much larger then they actually are in reality. So the margins appear much larger then they actually are as well. |

Early revenue stamps are notorious for the abundance of misperfed issues. So it's not a stretch that the perfs on this one were so far off that someone could easily trim it to look like a part perf. Especially from the outside of the sheet where the edges were not perfed. |

Back in the late 19th century, when ABNCO was consolidating, a lot of archival material was sold off, including perforating wheels. Most were purchased by stamp dealers. At the time, freak perfs were a popular collecting area, so certain dealers made sure to "help out" the market by creating LOTS more. Consequently they have no real additional value, and many collectors consider them to be worth less then a normal example. |

If only that was true. Plenty of collectors are not going to be sure, and think it's possibly a new variety. And this might have been done anytime in the last 150 or so years. |
