I have thought of this idea for years and tried it out on eBay last Christmas season:

Took about a dozen run-of-the-mill Antique Xmass PC's and put them on self peel & stick mailing labels which I had printed reproductions of old address sides of several different PC's.

Examples:

Listed them on eBay Under a title of something like: "Mail an antique post card...."set back waiting for orders to pour in:

Went over like a lead balloon, not one order. Price was $1 or so with 79c postage. Even supplied the modern forever PC stamp!

Mailed one to my brother last week and he thought it was a cool idea, receiving an antique PC in the mail, but then which brother wouldn't!

Or, alternatively, just use them yourself instead of buying any more cards! Not you specifically but people in general. I do postcrossing now and I'm finally using the stockpile of dollar box postcards I've accumulated. The people are always so pleased to get antique and foreign postcards! We stampers are so blessed truly to have access to history like this

If they won't fit in with the theme of a job lot, I just use old postcards to write "thank you" notes to ebay purchasers. Sadly, the vast majority of old postcards are worth between nothing and a penny.

oldboldandbrash, that is a great idea and one I have used. Do you erase the address side of penciled PC or paste a piece of paper on it? Or do you just use the unused PC's?

I'm glad that there is someone else out there who thinks like me...a little bit anyway!

GeofHa, you got that right on the price. Shame beautiful antiques or even vintage PC's are near worthless!, and what a wonderful idea, using them for writing thank you notes!

jomic— usually I'll only buy them unused. Recently though I had a beautiful birthday postcard that had been used so I just did as you said, pasted a piece of paper over it! Not even to obscure everything that had already been written, but just to give me some space to write. Must we not respect the past as well as coopt it?

I've sent previously unused French Christmas and Easter cards to people - sadly, my stock has now all gone.

I used to do this all the time, but only when I could find unused Christmas cards in bargain boxes for 50˘ or less. I think if you were to sell them on Ebay they would have to go for under $1. That's what you'd pay for a modern card at the Dollar Store.
