hy-brazil, Thanks for the link! They are gorgeous! I found another post by 51studebaker, 9/13/17, siting work being done by you with two links, copied hereon, that don't work.

Could you check out the links and repost them on this thread for us?

Previous post by Don: "hy-brasil has been working away on a new Stamp Smarter Community project for 1895-2017 US fancy cancels. Between this new database and the existing 1870-1894 US fancy cancel database we are closing in on 7000 cancels listed and freely available online. "

(in the meantime, I'll visit the Stampsmarter web site myself)

Thanks again hy-brazil!!

John

John, the sections can be accessed through the Stampsmarter main page and the picture index. You should leave a message for Don on that site; I don't run anything there nor do I have anything to do with the databases anymore.

Two patriotics:

Greenhurst, New York. The obscured word is LEND, as in buying war bonds.

Old Washington, Ohio. Flag Day.

Greetings hy-brazil. It was sure was a nice to come home and see your new posts. I especially enjoyed the one with the four leaf clovers on it! I will post more here in the near future. I keep searching my stash for the old fancy cancels, but I keep coming up with with only the stamps or cancelation strips. John

Just for fun,

I'd say yes to the first picture but am not sure of the second..Regardless of what I think, thank you for your posts, they are awesome!

I too visited the Stamp Smarter site and was amazed at their data base. I especially enjoy their "Fancy Cancels" section.

I wish they had more modern Pictorial Cover pictures, but can you imaging the leg work that would take?

John

Back in the late 1990s I used to send SASEs to selected philatelic event stations for special cancels. Since I maintained an Aircraft on Stamps collection, those stations that featured aircraft cancels were my first choices. Here are four of them:

Chance-Vought F4U Corsair with matching stamp.

Grumman F4F Wildcat with matching stamp

Douglas DC-3 with matching stamp

Boeing B-47 Stratojet with matching stamp

Don,

Thank you for the aviation pictorial covers! They are right up my alley! I was a US Army helicopter pilot, fixed wing pilot, air traffic controller and Aircraft Accident Investigator! Also worked on the guidance packages of the HAWK missile. Aviation was my life!

Although not a cover here is a nice pictorial cancelation:
