Hello everyone. This is my first post. I have been looking over the site for several months and decided to join. I have seen much to learn from or just to enjoy reading. I am presently working on inventorying my US collection which has gotten out of hand over the past several decades. I hope to find topics which I can contribute. Thank you all.

Welcome Shipdad,
I signed up a few days before you did, and your talk about your stamp collection being a humongous mess, certainly rang a bell with me. I have a world collection, which I don't advise if you like to keep track of things. I discovered a country collectiom I didn't knpw I had, (Mesopotamia - only seven stamps but worth a lot more than I would have guessed.) and several albums (South America) that I have forgotten about. I cannot believe the prices Scott lists for some of those stamps! Is South America a hot area for buying and selling stamps? Maybe someone who is more current on stamps than I am can say what the hot countries are. I know China is.
Do you collect anything other than USA?

Paris, sadly I try. Recently I have been collecting US Revenues. Somehow I also got interested in the Philippines during US and Spanish rule. And of course I have many foreign from an old Minkus album I got years ago. I like the foreign before the modern times, maybe before 1950. I love to find an old album and clean it out while researching the countries. Too much to do and little time. |

Come on down to NC and you will see what a mess is. I had collected US for years but I had always picked up any stamps so you can guess that I ended up with a lot. So now I have been working on them. It's fun. I should be done in 10/15 years. |

Shipdad, Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. Russ |

Shipdad and Zman.
I recently posted a "picture of my stamp room." Only the picture was only of one wall in the stamp room the one with shelves. The albums on the shelves looked reasonably neat and organized. That was a mirage, I assure you. But even worst, the three walls and the rest of the room that I didn't show you, was a total freaken disaster! I wouldn't know where to start to describe it, and I sure won't take a picture of it.
Believe me, when it comes to chaos, I've got everybody beat.
