That pic sure doesn't look like anything you'd see on a convention and tourism department's calendar.

But you have to admire the efficiency; no waiting until the packages get to the porch to steal them, no waiting to do smash and grabs at a retailer. Snatch them right off the train as they enter town.

They get first choice.

L.A. certainly looks like the place to be, for a person looking to get in on the ground floor of "smash and grab".

Sources told CBSLA that the locks Union Pacific uses are easy to cut, and officials with the Los Angeles Police Department said they don't respond to reports of a train robbery unless Union Pacific asks them for help, which they said is rare.

Evidently stealing from a train is legal in the eyes of the LA police! Eventually this lack of moral activity will hit the coffers of the state of California (and others) and then they will be forced to take appropriate action. Then and only then will I feel like visiting again. We were in San Francisco a few years ago and there were two guys buck naked holding signs trying to make known whatever their current dissatisfaction was with their lives. There were two cops not 50 yards away so I asked them if they saw this. Their response - we cannot do anything unless it is called in.
We love San Francisco LA and San Diego but would not go there now if it was a fully paid vacation.

I saw some footage of the things that were left in the dirt. COVID tests, watches, small appliances etc. Remember the days of the infamous railroad "dicks"? Time to start kneecapping some people. Just saying.

It's not USPS that I'm having trouble with recently, it's Amazon. I ordered a couple of things for my wife's birthday last week. All of it was supposed to be here Wednesday, in three packages. None of it showed up. Then, one of them came on Thursday, one day late and another was supposed to arrive by 3pm on Friday and it never did. Finally, it came through at 10pm Friday night and the last one is supposed to be here today. I don't know if I'm holding my breath.

All of them were carried by Amazon itself. I mean, I can understand once in a while, but all three packages from a single order? Maybe they need to consult the USPS for how to be efficient!

Amazon is facing the same employee issues that other companies are. Mandates, quarantines, just plain quitting and so on. If you are a first job kid and need a car to get to work, used cars are up 40% and gas is, well, you know about gas. My grocery store cannot find anyone to bag, roundup carts, stock shelves, bake bread, clean or anything else. What a train wreck. My construction industry friends are begging for people. I am seriously thinking of coming out of retirement to help some people.

That package that was supposed to be delivered today, it's now showing Monday. My wife's birthday is Tuesday. Sheesh, tell me where it is and I'll go pick it up!

No, Union Pacific has its own railroad police, as it has had since 1869, and only selectively invites local law enforcement onto its property because of the danger and potential liability. Whether LA County DA's would prosecute the perps that UP dicks apprehend is a separate question.

Impressive, for all the wrong reasons. I'm born, raised, and still living in Southern California and can't wait to relocate out. As a couple others have mentioned, there are a myriad of problems here and nothing is done until the elected leaders have no choice.

This is what can happen when you leave anything unguarded. Of course, it can be worse when it is an inside job. Theft has been going for a long time - well before trying to blame other current events one may not like.

So if you don't have armed guards, who now cannot do anything anyway, to protect your property it is your fault if it is stolen? How utterly ridiculous. Criminals are not being prosecuted. Simple as that.

Everyone sees the change. Organized smash and grabs, carjacking, home invasions and looting on a scale and with a brazenness that is hard to not be shocked by unless the poison of ideology closes your eyes to it. Criminal acts are not being prosecuted and that is an undeniable fact. Crime without punishment is what gets you here.

My wife lived in SF for 15 years and cries now at what has happened to that city.
