Please ID $2 & $10 Documentary And Cancel Question

I was wondering if the pen cancels on these stamps were the clerk's ID or an indication of the place it was cancelled.

I also noticed the middle stamp looks as if it's on top of another. Almost as though it's covering one of a coil pair of red $2 stamps. I might soak it off to see.

Most likely the clerks initials. I don't think that the middle stamp is covering anything underneath.

You know, I believe you're right. The centering is way off. As is the one farthest to the right.

Do you know where I can go to find the Scott #?

They are listed in the documentary section of the specialized, they are the 1917 issue without "SERIES 1914".

The $2 Value is R241 with a cut cancel, the $10 value is R245 also with cut cancel.

These issues are frequently found with cut cancels. More often then uncut, actually.

My only experience is looking closely at my early Turkey.
I delight in finding them.

Start collecting US revenues, if you like cut cancels you will never run out of delight.

... and perfin cancels... good Lord the perfin cancels. You can wade through several thousand 20th century stock transfer slips or stamp tax slips and every blasted one of them will be perfin canceled... hence the MUCH lower catalogue values for perfin cancels. For certain stamps, one might argue that the values for uncut, unperfinned stamps should be higher, given the difficulty in finding unsullied used examples.
