The overprint is a type 2 of the 9 different types. Type 1 & 2 were used in Singapore. I think it looks genuine. |

In Scott, this stamp with overprint is listed under Straits Settlements with catalogue number N12.
It is not a cheap stamp and it wouldn't surprize me if the overprints had been forged. I don't know enough to be able to tell if your example is real or forged.

Here a more in focus picture of the same stamp. Hope it helps in the problem solving! |

The Scott image seems cruder in some way. The Bleeker Booklet offers this (For Dutch East Indies) |

Thanks rod222. My doubt was that the overprint is on a much older George V stamp, not on an Edward stamp as usual. |

Shouldn't the chop be in red? It also looks like a British colonial era cancel which wasn't used by the occupying Japanese administration. |

I think it's a forgery.
1. That looks like Scott 192, which was issued from 1921-1932. The Japanese occupation stamps should be on Straits Settlement stamps issued from 1936-1941, which say Malaya at the top. 2. I agree with Rod that the overprint is a Type 2 (or B depending on which monogram you use), however the Type 2 overprint on 12c Straits Settlements is only known in red. 3. A black overprint is known on the 12c, but it is Type 1, which is significantly different from this.

Thank you Stampdoc, my idea also is that a occupational overprint on a George V stamp is highly improbable!
