Hello everyone! It's great to (sort of) meet all of you! My name is Dan and I'm pretty new to the hobby. I had always wanted to get into stamp collecting due to my love of history, and for years I've collected baseball cards and coins. I only started collecting stamps a couple of months ago when I saw an ad in some junk mail offering three historical stamps for free. I decided to respond to the ad, and when I received my three stamps I was hooked. I've been trying to grow my collection and learn as much as I can ever since. I grew up in Chicago, but recently got married and moved to Allen, TX (just north of Dallas) to be closer to my wife's family. I recently reached out to another collector (Ted the Talking Stamp Collector from YouTube, whom I highly recommended giving a watch), who encouraged me to join this site and be plugged into this community. Any collectors in the Dallas/Fort Worth area please message me. Anyways, I look forward to chatting with and learning from all of you, swapping stories, and sharing our love of stamps! - Dan

Welcome to a hobby of endless possibilities.
The SCF is a great info-sharing resource. Clearly stated posting titles result in the best and most responses. |

Dan, Consider collecting stamps still on the cover they were mailed on. We call it postal history. Many many common stamps are found on unique envelopes of historical significance. And then there is the "postal" aspect of the cover. Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. Russ |

And I apologize for calling you Don. I was looking at Don's post right above mine, at the time. #128516; |

Hello Dan. Welcome to the world of postage stamps. I used to live in Allen tx. on rivercrest back in the day when it was just a sleepy bedroom community. |
