Well, John has come up with an explanation I did not even know could happen. We continually learn something new each day. |

Whoa!!! I never expected this. A slime hole. This is so enlightening. I absolutely love the new (to me) information and the link to learn all about it. Yes I do have a cheap digital microscope. I can try to get close-ups for all to see. You have to love what some of those specialists know and are willing to share. Thanks John Becker. |

Now, to get back to the top of the topic with the big bug on the 34c parliament. I bought this strip in two pieces for a couple of dollars. The picture shows it as one strip. It's an illusion. But here is what bothers me about it. None of the perforation holes are covered. I am almost sure that the bug got caught in the moving machinery, got squashed after printing, or maybe before, and then was perforated through the bug. That was my first real stab at this. Yesterday, due to above comments, I decided to look at the glue side. I had never looked there, ever. Here is the glue side. And remember that these stamps are mint never hinged. What does this mean? It's the image on the glue side and the bug is on the face. This is not what I would expect if a bug got squashed on a sheet of stamps. Help??? |

Insect: Looks like the insect got caught in the paper making machinery as the slurry of pulp was still very water laden. His legs showing on both sides of the paper web. His demise occurring anytime after the web was formed would have him only on one side of the sheet. |

Could you try for the UV images? They add a different perspective and could help.

I suppose extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. This is for Just fella. The first photo is a UV image of 925 front. The highlighted areas are of great interest to me. The printing was seemingly done over the bug. The next picture is of the back of 925 under UV light. I hope this helps |

And since nobody else has yet presented weird stamps on this post I will show you yet another bug. number 1215 This one I love because it is on a 4H stamp showing a farmer's field. Seems it was so well printed that it attracted a real bug. Was this bug there before or after the printing was done? What kind of bug was it? I imagine this post may be starting to bug some of you so I swear I have no more insects in my collection. I may show you other things and maybe some of you can help me solve some other mysteries. |

Thank you for the images, there would need to be other things done to prove it, with the photos we can only go so far, but I really like it! Thank you for sharing
Could you UV the other?, The staining might be telling of something |

Moth without wings??? Maybe not Getting them certified?? I'm thinking about it but now that I have more info, maybe. What would be the benefit? Maybe for a display for a stamp show?
