Thought that I would share my positive experience live bidding today in Philatelia Fischer (PF) Sale 131. PF is based in Rome and the site is bilingual with your choice of Italian or English. The Live Bidding is PF's own platform, not SAN's. The time difference is obviously substantial if bidding Stateside which I was but as luck would have it my lots were going across the block in the session that started at 1600 CET or 1000 EST.
The entire site is extremely well executed and user friendly. You have many options to work with including a Watch List and pre-bidding. Estimates are realistic and openings are half of estimate which makes them low with the potential to score some good deals which is just what I did in the singular.
Bids that are entered by yourself and others are reflected in real-time and last night I entered a book bid in case I could not attend the live auction via the internet. The lot had a Scott cv of $1550 and had an estimate of 500 Euros with a 250 Euro opening. I was watching three other lots. I placed a bid of 300 Euros and was pleasantly surprised when I was winning at 270. My book bid did not max out as is want in some other Stateside auctions discussed on this forum. So far so good.
This AM I logged onto the site and live bidding had started. The interface is very well done and user friendly with a bid button of course and a time bar at the top that fills in as the seconds go by. It starts as green and as it fills the horizontal space it turns to yellow with the warnings about first and second call and then turns to red for a couple of seconds before the lot closes. Very, very well paced with the pace not being frantic nor slow. Roughly 240 lots were gone through per hour. There are no pregnant pauses while the auctioneer and/or SAN tries to figure something out. It is silky smooth.
My lot came up and I was prepared to go to 400 Euros. The time bar went into action, nobody else bid and it hammered to me for 270 Euros which is a smoking hot deal.
All in all, it was a great experience and I highly recommend Philatelia Fischer to all.
