Ethical or not aside, I do not see how anyone can make the case that passing additional costs on to others by breaking the law is not selfish and inconsiderate.

In the US this is the law.

Quote:
Once a postage stamp has been used, it is a federal crime to:
1. Remove, attempt to remove, or assist to remove cancellation marks from postage.
2. Reuse a stamp whether cancelled or not.
If you have questions concerning the reuse of postage, please contact your local Postal Inspector.
Title 18, U.S. Code, Sections 471 and 1720

Quote:
Whoever uses or attempts to use in payment of postage, any canceled postage stamp, whether the same has been used or not, or removes, attempts to remove, or assists in removing, the canceling or defacing marks from any postage stamp, or the superscription from any stamped envelope, or postal card, that has once been used in payment of postage, with the intent to use the same for a like purpose, or to sell or offer to sell the same, or knowingly possesses any such postage stamp, stamped envelope, or postal card, with intent to use the same or knowingly sells or offers to sell any such postage stamp, stamped envelope, or postal card, or uses or attempts to use the same in payment of postage; or

Whoever unlawfully and willfully removes from any mail matter any stamp attached thereto in payment of postage; or

Whoever knowingly uses in payment of postage, any postage stamp, postal card, or stamped envelope, issued in pursuance of law, which has already been used for a like purpose—

Shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than one year, or both; but if he is a person employed in the Postal Service, he shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both.

(June 25, 1948, ch. 645, 62 Stat. 783; Pub. L. 103–322, title XXXIII, §#8239;330016(1)(G), Sept. 13, 1994, 108 Stat. 2147.)

But times are changing here in the US. In some US locations, shoplifting less than $1000 of items is no longer considered a serious crime and stores do not interfere if people walk out with arm loads of stolen merch. <shrugs> Perhaps only caring about yourself is the new normal and I am just a chump for not feeling that way.

Yes some view such activity as wealth redistribution to achieve the goal of economic woke equity; with the justification that "the stores have insurance." That comment underscores the ignorance of some folks in not understanding insurance premium rate setting and related cost sharing. Or even worse, they do, and thieve to purposely cause financial harm to others. What is even more offensive it the excusing of folks saying they need to do this to "survive."

One stamp dealer in Berkeley, California did a stretch for reusing stamps and selling for reuse stamps taken from PG&E return payment envelopes. The downside to the hobby was the public utility no longer allowed the envelopes out the door for stamp collectors. This was in the late 1980s. This vindictive person, who had his internet history scrubbed, shall not be named.

It's the time of year to lick old Christmas stamps. What better way to reach the 60 cent rate than with quantity 15 of 1205 4c Wreath and Candles, issued 60 years ago. They're definitive-sized so 15 can fit on an envelope.
