Scanned below is a postcard from my WW postal history collection sent onboard the German ocean liner SS Amerika with a nice German Seepost cancel.
110 years ago today, according to Wikipedia, on April 14, 1912, an officer on the Amerika sent a telegram message to the Hydrographic Office in Washington, D.C. USA reporting that the ship "passed two large icebergs in 41 27 N 50 .8 W on the 14th of April" signed "Knutp, 10:51 pm". This message was relayed by the wireless operator on another newer ship, to the relay station at Cape Race, Newfoundland, because the transmitter of Amerika was not powerful enough to reach Cape Race directly.
Tragically, that newer ship, the RMS Titanic, struck an iceberg and sank less than 3 hours later. The telegram that SS Amerika sent is also shown below, picture snipped from Wikipedia.
