Here is an old Bavarian cancel on a late WWII packet card clipping. The village is Kollnburg in the Regen District of Bavaria. The Ortsverzeichnis I (1944)/official directory puts an "x" after the location name, meaning it is a "poststelle"/mail department, i.e. not a regular/dedicated postal facility. The date of the cancel is 20 NOV (inverted month) 44.

The cancelling device shows the time at the bottom V 6-8 (6-8 a.m.; the V is incomplete). A small, blurry 5-pointed star is at the bottom the cancel.

The 1917 Koetzting, Bavaria cancel is shown for comparison.

Hi bookbndrbob,

That is an interesting one. It doesn't have the star after the hours from the DR era 1933-45. But it has the caracteristics of the reserve. type 37R. 02-1906-08-1907.

During the Bavarian era there are two 37a:

1- 1901-1906. Star before hours Ex: * 7-8 N
2- 1906-1920 Repaired in July 1907. Star after hours Ex: V 7-8 * Also the O is wider.

Interesting.

Thanks hornet. I wonder if the cancelling device was damaged or altered in its later use? The lines in front of, and behind the hours look odd.

For those collectors interested in Bavarian postmarks you can download a set of 4 volumes here. It covers the years 1876-1920. It is the reference noted by hornet785.

https://www.bayern-arge.de/
Then click on "Handbücher" and then "Handbuch Dr. Helbig".

Rod,

The original HAPAG stamp (MiNr. 1) is from 1875. There was also a second printing in 1879 (MiNr. 2). They differ slightly in color. The 2021 Michel CV of these:

MiNr. 1 -- 130€ MH, 300€ used, 1,700€ on cover
MiNr. 2 -- 180€ MH, 350€ used, 2,400€ on cover

Over the years, there have been multiple reprints for philatelic reasons. I'm working from mobile, so rather than post the rather lengthy summary, see the write-up on my site here.

The one on the cover shown above is the 1975 reprint made for the 1975 NORDPOSTA exhibition.
