Just about to put these machins out of a 50p booklet on an envelope and noticed a printing smear and decided not to use them incase they are collectible.

I do not know about monetary value, but if I were to collect Machins specialized I would certainly jump at these!
Please leave as much as possible of this intact!

This might be a Doctor Blade flaw. It is quite collectable.

Thanks for info

My initial reaction was to discard them as I thought the post office might reject them if I used them as postage.

Now I know better i'll put them safely away

Are you sure it is a smear and not a scuff/scrape?

That perhaps was introduced during assembly of the booklet?

Contact the MBPC. They may be interested.
Provide clear scans, preferably of both sides of your booklets.
As it appears you have two adjacent booklets, try to place them next to each other in your scans.

I've found a third booklet with even more pronounced marks.

The marking don't feel like a scratch/scuff when you pass you finger across the stamps

yes, the closeup looks less like a scuff than he smaller image did.
