US (Advertising) Booklets

Who can tel more about these booklets or where can I find more information about them.

These are covers from privately vended stamps, and not booklets really. As you've found, they always contain loose stamps.

These were privately-owned slot-machine/mechanical vending machines that were once placed in stores just about everywhere. They fooled a lot of people into thinking they were post office machines because they were decorated in a red white and blue scheme or something looking "official" that read "U.S. POSTAGE". And you got a fair bit less postage than what you paid. Certainly, if you understood it was all for convenience (and it was convenient), you could justify the difference.

These were all assembled by hand. If that was what came in one folder, I'll wager the vending machine owner was a stamp dealer who had someone working up discount/excess postage and getting paid in collectible stamps.

There are different designs by different manufacturers. One of remaining images here shows one on a stand but they could be set on a store counter, too.

Seem to be mistaken for post office machines (again) but the ones shown in color are privately owned machines.

The ads were pre-printed by advertiser(s) who was/were the printer(s) that sold the folders to vending machine owners. They sold them cheaply in exchange for putting their advertising on the folders.

Yes, I have one of those over there (pointing towards a corner of my stamp office). Part of the cost of selling the stamps was obtained by selling the advertising space on the booklet covers.

Now don't confuse your privately produced and privately vended booklet with the USPS "official" makeshift booklets assembled with non booklet pane stamps. Placed into a folded cover these two were vended but in the post office. The covers were generic meaning they were independent of the stamp design included, however a white space was included for adding issue specific information and cost.

If you search eBay with the key word makeshift your should find examples. At one time early in production, they were mentioned in the Scott US Specialized booklet section. However, I have not kept up with modern booklets to say if such information remains in Scott and if all of the designs used to produce such vended booklets are listed.
