Mega Sellers Of Modern Sheets On Ebay

What are your opinions about buying modern sheets from mega sellers (basically stamp dealers) on eBay who have thousands of listings and many multiples of each item? For time and labor reasons obviously, they don't have an actual scan of each sheet they sell. Are they trustworthy enough to where the sheets won't have wrinkles, creases, fingerprints, etc.. on them?

"Trust" should be earned, not guessed.

If that is what you seek, simply email the vendor in question,
requesting your outlines and ask for an updated price if they comply.
To a point, it is your responsibility, to ask, and / or return the goods for refund
if material damaged.

Personally, I cannot see a vendor checking for fingerprints.

Check the feedback of the seller and you shouldn't have any problems. Most collectors are very fussy and this should reflect in the seller feedback if they don't sell stamps of the highest quality.

If selling as postage (under face value) gum side condition should not be a sellers concern as long as there is gum. Ungummed mint needs to be mentioned as they should sell for less, except NGAI.

If buying material at over face, then it can be considered a collectible stamp with any flaws mentioned. Now you have the opportunity to ask the seller about the quality before buying with specific inquiry into if the seller checks for "wrinkles, creases, fingerprints, etc.. on them." Here I have experience asking about plate number and position, for example the broken ring US Olympic stamp. If such is pictured, I ask to verify I will receive the same plate number(s) and position (UL, UR, LL or LR). If the answer is yes, I buy, if the answer is no, I don't know or no response, I don't buy.

Shipping and sales tax is not considered in the below or above face value in my comments above.

Everything on eBay has a money back guarantee, it is difficult to have your money taken unless you just don't mind.

Parcelpostguy: Excellent summary. These mega sellers with thousands of listings do mention in their listings that plate numbers can vary and I assume they use stock images for the sheets. One can assume the condition is variable and probably more for postage vs for collectibility. What's odd is they sell modern sheets that command a significant premium (over double face value) at FV along with all the other run of the mill issues at FV.
