Is there a post for US plate flaws? (Like the one for Germany)
If not, here we go.

Scott 704 (1/2 Washington Bicentennial) "Broken circle".
Found on plate # 20560 UR

There are a number of broken circle stamp designs in addition to what you have shown. These I show in order by issue date:

Double transfer gives look of broken areas.

Extra line give look and name of broken circle in right numeral at bottom.

Rings are circles and the red ring on the middle stamp is broken and 1/2 gone.

EDIT: Forgot to add these photos:

Nice Buffalo (Looks just like the illustration shown in Scott)
Thanks for showing.

Doesn't just have to be circles. Any/all will do. Just be nice if listed.

This topic needs to be renamed if you want it to be about al plate varietis and not just the one in the initial title.

There are actually 4 positions of the 616 that have the broken circle and they are a bit different (and might come in different stages?). Here is a closeup of 2 of them:

The 30 cent is not a "broken circle", it is a major double transfer.

Damaged "a" in "Postage" on 737 Mothers (plate 21215 UR pos 25)

I have tried to add an image of the whole stamp and second part of the file name looks correct, but it insists on displaying the closeup image twice (presumably because the first part of the file name inside the img tag is .20220625, which I assume is the SCF file name it creates when the image is uploaded.

Also, if one wants to dig deep, this is where to start: Encyclopedia of Plate Varieties US Bureau-Printed Postage by Loran C French (1979)

It shows up for sale regularly but the three on eBay right now are at nosebleed prices ($150+/-) unless the book suddenly jumped in value when not looking. $30-40 is more inline with what I have seen in person.

Well, revcollector, that is why I wrote under the photo:

If I had a photo I would post it but way back when I picked up my on cover example for a couple of bucks (yes well under $10) at PENPEX in Redwood City California. However, I don't remember if cover is the DT left, 14438 LR 79, unpriced mint, used or on cover; or, the one shown above which is right, 16065 UR 52 which catalogs as $450.00 mint and unpriced used or on cover.

Edited for spelling, punctuation and pricing information.

Two requests:

1. I will echo a previous comment, if this is going to become a thread for posting all sorts of plate flaws, then it wold be improved with a new title more reflective of that broader direction.

2. Because we have collectors here from all over the world and at different levels of knowledge, please show an image of the complete stamp in addition to the close-up (including an arrow to point out the defect is a great bonus too.) Full context is important.

The Clark stamp is also a double transfer. As for the 569 buffalo. I have one with a precancel and one postally used, although I do not have a mint example.

This topic is completely misnamed at this time. We need a change in topic description, which can be done by the OP.

French lists this as 20560, UR8, Defective transfer of l. value tablet.
