I hope Sandfrayre sold the collection intact and didn't break it up .

Floortrader makes some excellent points regarding archiving these valuable philatelic resources.

There are other tremendous resources like Pollard's that are on other commercial auction sites internet sites. Where is the APS on this topic. To my mind the APS should be actively pursuing these types of electronic records and preserving them for the public. While I appreciate that Siegel and Schuyler and others retain these records there is no guarantee that will continue to be the case.

Thinkstamp, I wasn't aware of that article - too bad it's not freely available online. I'll have to track down a copy for my Heligoland reference file! Thanks for sharing, and looks like you've put together a nice collection.

All articles in The American Philatelist are available on the Robert A. Mason Digital Library: https://digital.stamplibrary.org/digital/. Access to the library is free - instructions to log in are available on the site.

I encourage you to search for the article and add it to your collection.

We are also uploading Lawrence Mead's exhibit to the APRL Reference Catalog, which is also available to all.

We continue to add new information to both the library and reference catalog.

Scott

Scott - Would it be possible for the APS to reach out to Schuyler Rumsey about adding the Pollard Heligoland collection/study to the APRL.

That's a good question Roger. Schuyler is prepping for the auction he will be holding at GASS, but I will have a chance to chat with him then and will pose the question.

A promotional note, the Rumsey auction will include the remaining items from Bob Mason's estate which is helping finance the growth of the digital library. If you're interested in international revenues, there are some great items to bid on. Remember, it all goes to a great cause for the hobby.

We scanned my grandfathers entire heligoland collection, along with everything else, prior to it going to auction so I have access to a digital version. I thought about seeing if Don would host it on Stamp Smarter. If APRL is the better place I can reach out to them. Sadly I think the collection has been broken up as individual pieces are being offered up in each of Sandafayre recent auctions.

Harper ----- I got a question for you . There was two lots sold at that auction , one was his main collection and the other looks like his inventory .

The question is did your Grandfather keep his inventory on 3X5 manila cards with pencil written describe the Scott catalog plus which type of reprint . Maybe even he sold these cards/inventory earlier than 2018 ? Very neat and clear pencil writting ? Was that sold years before the collection .

It was only the one lot (3336). I'm not able to see the other lot to determine if it might be something of his from the past. To my knowledge he didn't sell any of his Heligoland while he was alive and using the 3x5 cards wasn't really his style but I will double check with my father to see if he recalls anything.
