Republic of Korea 1999 New Millennium I
Jeongok-ri Prehistoric Site is located along Hantan River in Gyeonggi Do, some 50 km north of Seoul. The site is known for its large number of stone handaxes made and used by ancient hominin during Paleolithic age (70000 to 40000 BC).
Amsa-dong Prehistoric Settlement Site is a Neolithic village (6000 to 5000 BC) situated on Han River, in a neighborhood east of Seoul. The stamp shows pit house and a comb-pattern pottery vessel with a pointy bottom.

Republic of Korea 1999 New Millennium I
Bangudae Petroglyphs are pre-historic engravings on flat, steep rock faces on the riverside of the Daegokcheon stream in Ulsan. The 304 pieces of carvings include images of cetaceans, land animals, humans, and unidentified motifs. The site dates from 6000 to 1000 BC.
Shell Mound in Dongsam Cave is located on the west coast of Yeong-do Island in Yeongdo District, Busan. This archaeological site consists of a midden of shells that were discarded by people who lived there around 8000 to 3500 BC. A variety of pottery and tools made from bone and stone were also discovered.

Republic of China 2014 Ancient Chinese Artifacts
The stamp set features artifacts from Yin Ruins (1400 to 1046 BC), the remains of the capital city of late Shang Dynasty in northern China: marble carving of a standing owl, animal mask bridle ornament with turquoise inlays, oracle on ventral bone of a turtle, bronze square cauldron with ox motif, bronze wine bottle with detachable cup, inscribed deer skull, marble kneeling anthropomorphic figure with tiger head, jade crested human head ornament.

Republic of China 1979 Origin and Development of Chinese Characters
The NTD$2 stamp features oracle bone script, a form of Chinese characters that were engraved on turtle ventral or animal bones used in pyromantic rituals. Oracle bone script was used in the mid to late 2nd millennium BC and is the earliest known form of Chinese writing. The vast majority of oracle bone inscriptions were found at the Yin Ruins site located in Anyang, Henan Province.

Ethiopia 1977 Archaeology
Melka Kunture is a Paleolithic site in the upper Awash Valley in central Ethiopia. Mass production of obsidian hand axes began as early as 1.2 million years ago.
Omo remains are a collection of hominin bones discovered at the Omo Kibish sites in Omo Valley in southwestern Ethiopia. These fossil specimens are ca. 190000 to 120000 years old and are classified as Homo sapiens.

Algeria 2020 Archeological Sites of Algeria
Ain El-Hanech is an ancient lake located about 7 km northwest of El Eulma, in the wilaya of Sétif. This site has yielded fossilized bones of Lower Pleistocene animals, associated with an Oldowan-type pebble industry dated to 1.8 million years. The findings attest to the expansion of early humans to North Africa.
Sfissifa Station is located in the municipality of Al Ghicha at Laghouat. It is the site of a diverse heritage including Neolithic rock art and touristic landscape. The stamp depicts a sketch of a female elephant protecting her calf from attack by a lion.

Kenya 2002 Historical Sites of East Africa
Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania is a 48 km long steep-sided ravine within the Great Rift Valley in East Africa. Fossil-bearing strata, up to 90 m thick, sit above a welded tuff base and are overlain by a series of lava flows. Hominid specimens of Homo habilis, Paranthropus boisei and Homo erectus (1.9 to 1.2 million years of age) discovered here provide important clues on early human evolution.

Homo naledi is an extinct hominin species discovered in 2013 in the Rising Star Cave system, Gauteng province, South Africa, dating to the Middle Pleistocene (335000-236000 years ago). It is one of the most primitive member of the Homo Genus.
