Do Status do live bidding? I'm not aware of them offering that facility. |

Sorry John, not I I only use Phoenix. I have live bid on another, (cannot recall) worked fine, but a lot knocked down to me (digitally) appeared sold to someone else, when I queried late advice. I only trust Phoenix Status : Kiloware Lots and prices realised FYI "Unchecked" I believe your trust will only be realised after buying some lots as a test. Auction Lots Prices realised |

Thanks Rod.
I've neither bought nor sold with Status for quite some time now, but have had an excellent relationship with them as both.
Phoenix has been my go-to auction for a good while, especially as a buyer. |

Quote: "Unchecked" I believe your trust will only be realised after buying some lots as a test. Need to give a bit of history here. Stopped bidding on these lots back in 2016 (Same charities)after been a strong kiloware and KGV buyer for around 18 years. Stopped bidding because of the exact same issue as back then and that was being beaten by 1 bidding step. |

John, with respect, that means very little. Just that another buyer has a larger bid. OK, lets say you bid on a lot for $245, and Joe Citizen Bids $800 say the bid increment is $5 The lot will be knocked down to Joe Citizen 1 bid higher than yours eg $250 My dealer in North America gives me 30 seconds between bids so one can increase the bid, till your limit is reached, or you win the bidding. Surely Status online will offer a similar opportunity. Example as above Status Lot 236 Estimate is $150 Reserve is $100
It sold for $1200, the bidder whom bid $1100, got beaten by 1 bid, just like you. (if the increment at that price was $100)

With Status International Auctions on-line catalogue with live bid windows is next to the estimate. Have also their adds refer to being approved for live bidding.
With my very limited live on-line bidding there have been basically 2 different live auction types one where you bid and the lot was sold in reality 5 mins ago because of the time lapse. Or you can really do live as if you were in the auction room bidding.
Trying find out if Status International is truly into live bidding? Was hoping someone just might know the answer. |

Quote: Trying find out if Status International is truly into live bidding? This is the internet, there should be no time lapse if there is, I certainly would not be bidding. my snipes on ebay go down to the last 7 seconds? and that may be a lot in the US or Europe. You should see a countdown clock, on live bidding. 10 seconds , 9 seconds etc If you are slack on the mouse click, you can lose, that's why, (in my opinion) you bid your best bid, and hope for the best. Here, you have to trust your dealer / auction house. |

With Phoenix, for example, I bid on some Literature 2 weeks ago 3 days before auction, I get an email, my bid has been overtaken, I then have a choice to increase my bid or walk away.
I walked away.

Quote: Just that another buyer has a larger bid. Yes, that is the issue Rod. I have to deal with it to go forward. Room bidders are now always the winners of the best lots at status. Been like that since 2016 basically. Am keeping in touch with these auction. It is apart of life. Have no sour grapes to tread. Have my next bidding strategy worked out. A true live on-line auction bidding would put me on level footing with room bidders. |

Room bidders are now always the winners of the best lots at status.
However, it still comes down the best bid, which is "right"
If two bids are the same say $250, the time is of the essence, and a room bidder should lose out to any other type of bid.
I have had issues with this with stamp club auctions where a room bid opens the bid, rather than the mailed in bid. I think this is very wrong.

I still prefer putting in my best bid prior. Experience tells me "Beware of FOMO" (Fear of missing out) It can tease dollars out of your wallet, then comes buyers remorse.Know thyself. |

Quote: I still prefer putting in my best bid prior. That is the best advice. My experience with Status has been positive. I'm not a room bidder, and still have high success rate. Bid the maximum you would pay. Only issue with auctions North of Albury-Wodonga is the patina of humidity. Rust. Similar if buying from Auckland, NZ, based auction houses. |

My bids are usually built around what can come out of the kiloware in a value sense. Then place my bids accordingly. If I was bidding live and miss a couple of lots it would give me room for a more serious bid. The thing is for me with having large multiple bids is what sort of funds do I have to back up all my bids.
Sabine at status is good value. Great to deal with. Will wait till things cool a bit and then ask about on-line bidding. Always good to get the users take on how it all works. |
