Yes David, been there, done that, first I cut out the page, from the stock book and soaked. Left the stock book spine damaged, it's a win lose situation.
I would have at least 6 Chinese Stock books, gradually degrading under my Vegie patch
There is a little trick sometimes, with adhered items. Instead of trying to lift the stamp from the page, Lift the page fragment from the stamp (with care)
This happened with the Hagner, (which was destroyed) But after a few minutes of gentle persuasion, it lifted clear with mild gum disturbance.
This trick works well with slobbered hinges, and I may add, lifting mounts from pages.
