Sounds like a Phillip Ryle (aka The British Cartel) copy-cat. "The Indiana Cartel"? |

I find it very hard to trust eBay vendors who post Good photos of the front of stamps and very poor photos of the back of the same stamps.
NYStamps on eBay is a good example. |

Seller claims to be a member of APS/ARA. Shouldn't there be an ethics complaint filed? |

Don't forget to bid on the R15e!!!! Again - $2,250 lot with crappy pics and no cert. Is the canx date correct? I thought the known dates were clustered in 1869? Rumsey comment is interesting.... |

I just emailed this seller about two listings and received two replies. A revenue stamp with obvious trimmed perfs received a response of "the edges appear very straight under magnification" and a Hawaiin stamp that is as bogus as the day is long received a response of "WAs sold as genuine in a Rasdale auction last year". It was not sold by Rasdale as a single and was likely in a bulk lot which means zero as to authenticity. At least we know where this joker gets his material.
I asked him for his APS number. |

Most of his imperf and part perf singles are fakes, they probably came out of a bad bulk lot too. |

Seller just messaged and stated that he is pulling the two listings I messaged him about "pending further research". LOL |

Quote: Is the canx date correct? I thought the known dates were clustered in 1869? 1866 actually, although there are a few 1868 outliers. Never seen one as late as 1870 though. And the color is ALL wrong, not to mention the paper type. I've personally owned 3 different certed examples of R15e at one point or another, two of which I found in the wild and gotten clean PF certs on. See my census page for genuine examples here: https://revenue-collector.com/R15ecensus.shtmlRe: The Rumsey comment, sure it could have come out of some bulk lot or another, but there's a reason Rumsey didn't pull it out and lot it as a single (which they would have done)... |

The seller messaged me again to reiterate the Rumsey comment and I told him exactly what Dan stated above regarding Rumsey not pulling the stamps for a reason. He also asked me if I was the APS police. His final comment was the familiar "I have never had a problem up until now" which says two things (at least). One is that his buyers are totally uneducated or delusional or both. The other is that he is a liar since there are feedback comments complaining about the very topic of trimmed perfs and other "problems".
What becomes obvious and is repeated ad nauseum with many Ebay sellers like this is that they know full well what they are doing but the cash is too tempting for them to stop ripping people off. |

I think this thread is a classic example of why prior communication with a seller before buying an item where there are a lot of variables is critical, because you can form opinions and judgements on a seller. I think eBay sellers should optionally post their social media pages or be available for a video conference that way as a buyer you can use your intuition.
Intuition is used all the time when people buy used cars face to face from private parties. |
