For sale on Marktplaats, a black penny with 1870 stamping. A forgery or how to explain? Help is appreciated!

PS: I could not upload a screenshot since it has a wrong extension, so I post the URL to the website, and you can take a view.

Yes, it's a forgery. Penny Blacks don't have margins this big and the design does not appear to be engraved. We should probably be able to see the watermark from the back as well. Even worse, the cancel is from 1970, not 1870.

Poisson d'Avril?

This brings to mind a question: were Penny Blacks ever demonitized before 1970?

Looks like a cut out from the GB stamp issue "Philympia 1970".

Indeed it is - hence the 1970 postmark.

perf12 solved it.
The original sales listing has been taken down, but to illustrate this thread for the future, here is an image of the full stamp from which the cut-out was made, note the corner letters of "PL".for Philympia.

The listing expired. I do not know if the listing has been changed. But the text next to it reads "4 old stamps, Queen Victoria, One Penny. The Black Penny is a forgery, has no watermark"

Of course, if you want to be scammed, Marktplaats is the place to go. A small chance someone is selling an unknown Rembrandt for a child's painting, big chance of being sold a child's painting for an unknown Rembrandt.
