Wow. This is some great find that was made on these U.S. 1/2 cent postage dues (J88) used on cover. It is interesting that their location of Ottawa, OH has helped to find many more of them. How many years have collectors been looking to find them on cover? This forum is a great place to announce such finds. Even though I don't collects these stamps and covers, I always enjoy it when stamp collectors find such items and post them on here.

It's fun to find something new and I've done several it times over the past few years. I'd been looking for J88 on cover since I was a teenager - so 50 years.

Way back a SCF thread on the 1/2 dues on cover was started. It did not include any 1/2 cent J88 covers, likely for reasons explained in this thread. Time to link them: http://goscf.com/t/32566

Just an anecdotal note based upon my searches for solo and combination fractional-cent rate usages of half-cent dues on cover: in my opinion the J69 (perf 11) appears far less frequently on cover than J79 (perf 11 x 10.5).

I actually find considerably more J68 and J79 fractional uses than J69.

Not too many of J69 - J76 were printed before being replaced with J79 - J86. Of course it's really hard finding covers, plate blocks, and/or sheets.
