Hello to you all! Thanks for accepting me here! I've been collecting since 1985, with a few life-imposed breaks here and there. I've been back at it for the past 5 years now!
I mainly collect, mint and used, Canada, Newfoundland, US, France, CEPT/Europa and many various topics!
I've often come across this site as I was searching for information! There is also some info I can share in some threads, it's just I'll have to figure out how everything works out here!
Thanks for helping me navigate this site, don't hesitate to steer me in the right direction!
(By the way, I'm French speaking so I might write odd things in English occasionally!)
Later!

Alie, Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ |

Alie, welcome to the forum from a fellow Nova Scotian. Great place for questions and info and a variety of opinions on subject matter. Was at Novapex 2022 in August, which was NSSC 100th anniversary show in Darthmouth, and Stampex22 in October in Bridgewater. Did you happen to go to either? |

Thanks all for welcoming me!
To my fellow Nova Scotian : I didn't attend both shows. I live in the SW part of the province and haven't travelled much since the pandemic. I am a member of the NSSC.
I will try to see if this forum works for me! So far, so good!
I do find some threads that are older but have info to add : do I do it anyways, reopen these discussions?
I've tried to add a picture to a thread but it didn't work. I'll try again from a different device tomorrow.
I had noticed that you were from NS : glad you were one of the first ones to reach out!
I am part of a WW club where we exchange stamps according to profile and preferences: that way, I am able to move a lot a different stamps and add those I like or need to my albums!
We'll cross our paths here again! Take care! |

Alie, many have added or bumped old threads back to life with new or differing information. Especially when it deals directly with the previous subject matter. As for adding photos, in most cases you have to use the optimizer to shrink the pixel size of the image, download it to your device, select it and upload to forum.
I am planning to be at the Valley stamp club show in the spring. I end up driving 5 hours to the valley one way, but it is the only way I get to talk to collectors and acquantiances that are likeminded in the hobby.

Absolutely ! Just begin your post with "Thread Bumped" if the older post shows the warning. That advises readers of a revitalised post. |

Hi Mike!
I could make it to the Valley show in the spring. That would be the closest for me (a drive of a couple of hours)! I could certainly meet fellow philatelists from the province!

Hello and a belated welcome to the forum! I was just looking at CEPT/Europa stamps yesterday as it looks like an area of collecting I might want to get into. I'm still researching some, though so far it looks like the more recent years have gotten bigger and a whole lot pricier than they used to be. That's a general trend in the US yearbooks that I collect too. It looks like a fun way to get more international in my mint collecting though.
I was just thinking of Nova Scotia recently. I've never been there, and my wife and I had a vacation to Halifax and Cape Breton scheduled last fall, only to have to cancel at the last minute when I got Covid. It was so disappointing, and we're looking at rescheduling for fall 2023.
No1philatelist, thanks for the info on bumping old threads. That was something I wondered about myself. Some forums greatly disapprove of doing so and I wasn't certain of the etiquette here. |

Hello Callon!
Thanks for your interest in my post! I've been collecting CEPT/Europa for a few years now! It started in 1956 with 6 countries and now, there are so many, almost too many, especially since the addition of the Eastern Bloc! I do get my stamps mostly through exchanges with people from around the world!
Canada issues about 45-50 stamps per year and France had over 500 last year! It's a bit too much according to me!! I find that 50ish is quite manageable!
I do have so many spare CEPT/Europa, mostly until 1985, that I would love to send to you but I believe that I understand that I need at least 50 entries in order to gain credibility. I'm not even sure that I am allowed to exchange on this site after that, looks like it's more about sharing info!
Nova Scotia is an amazing place! Right now, my community is bustling since the lobster fishing season opened at the beginning of the month! We get fresh lobster from the ocean ground to our plates on the same day!! Cape Breton is known for its fall colours, you'll love it!
Until next time!

Thank you for a generous offer to send a few Europa stamps though I think you're right that there isn't a good way to exchange information until we both have more posts. I just ordered a complete set of Europa/CEPT stamps from 1976 as one seller from Belgium had them for a low price. I may order others if I'm happy with the seller and he still has any by then. I am kind of puzzled looking for sellers of the Europa stamps online though. There are very few people selling complete year sets on e-bay and of those that do, the sets stop in the mid 1990s. After that it's almost all the listings are for Europa stamps from one country for one year at a time, and boy does the cost of getting them that way add up fast. Googling, I see Nordfrim has a 2006 set (50th anniversary), but it still looks like finding complete year sets after the mid to late 1990s is rare. I know there are more and more Europa stamps issued each year as time goes on, but I'm still surprised I don't see sellers assembling complete year sets for more recent years. Maybe most collectors prefer to collect by country rather than just buying all the issues for a year? I love lobster. |
