Any guesses on what grill this is? And how do you guys usually measure it? Thank you.

Search for "grill" for other threads on the SCF.

Dipping it in watermark fluid usually helps bring out the grill and makes it easier to identify.

Great! I thought about that before posting. Seemed like getting it wet (the safe way) will bring out those little grooves. Next step is to get a hold of some!

Excellent posts Parcelpostguy! I can clearly see with the naked eye how the lines flow horizontally on the "Z" as opposed to vertically on the others.
I actually just discovered that the 15 cent has a Z grill version, as it isn't mentioned on Stampworld!

Most likely an 'F' grill, as that is the most common with the thin paper variety.

Stephen-P,
If it was a Z grill, it would be a 85F. There are only two other examples of the 15c "Z" grill are recorded (2013 auction price $2,000,000.)

What do you think the odds might be that you just found another one?

Such a weak grill on that paper? Zero.

revcollector, is the pressure used to stamp a grill another determining factor of what type it is? May be hard to tell from this battered paper.
The album I pulled it from labeled it as a #77, so the original collector must have missed the grill because other grilled pieces are labeled properly.

Not specifically. But some grills do tend to be impressed more strongly then others. In my experience, Z grills tend to show up pretty well most of the time. Obviously grills do get pressed out sometimes.
