The earliest line-drawing symbolised arrows from what I have... I think the arrows are expressing some kind of power or authority coming from upper there. Bosnia and Herzegovina 25 October 1916 / Newspaper Express, Mercury / design: A. Cossmann |

These arrows from bull's mouth (or breath?) are also expressing some mythical power, I guess. France 19 November 1966 / French Art: "The Moon and the Bull" tapestry by Jean Lurçat |

I think this thread would be remiss without the great subliminal arrow in the FedEx logo on all their packaging. Don |

Thank you Don, for the familiar logo which is in a way the counter force to the conventional postal service. I checked the designer - was Lindon Leader, who was a senior design director at Landor Associates in San Fransisco. I agree with you, Don - very good design. Here is another arrows on a stamp, in relation to delivery-service - well, less subtle to compare to above India 1974 / Universal Postal Union Centenary |

Egypt had issued this stamp with 8 arrows in the same year of above one. In this case, arrows are showing people and goods transportation around growing cities. Egypt 1986 / CODATU: Cooperation for urban mobility in the developing world |

Thank you KuoLC for the nice one! That is rare to view personified arrow, in fact... Here is one from Brazil, in this case arrows are expressing "concentration" towards democracy (blue circle?), at the critical moment on their modern history (I am guessing). Brazil March 1974 / 10 Years Building Brazil |

One more "centre directed" arrows. In this case, they are calling for gathering, I would imagine. Switzerland 25 August 1958 / Second UN Atomic Conference, Geneva / design: H. Schwarzerbach |
