Collecting stamps is very interesting but tricky and not an easy thing. I'm a new guy here although I've been here for some time as a guest. I'm not sure if it is the right spot to introduce myself, so here is a short info... I can't say I'm a collector, because, in my opinion, a collector is somebody knowledgeable and well educated in the subject. I'm quite a rookie in stamps and my story is quite cheesy; my dad is collecting stamps, always has been, he is a member of a philatelic society. I "helped" him from as long as I remember, we put new stamps into albums when he bought them and I always enjoyed it. In addition to his big collection we have a small part of my grandfather's collection, in which we have no idea if there are any good stamps left with us. So I decided to go ahead and begin identifying them. And for some time now I have had so many questions, I decided to join the club and ask these questions.#8232; This is my first question: I attached a stamp I couldn't find on the internet in this particular color and I started to think that it is a forgery, or envelope cut-out, or something else? Thank you for your help in advance.

Welcome, Quote: I can't say I'm a collector, because, in my opinion,
Opinion. I respectfully disagree. Anyone with more than 1 stamp in their possession is a "collector" Your stamp is not genuine, In my experience, it is a cut out from a dealer's promotion ephemera. I have seen stamps similar with the coloured perf outline I have one in my collection somewhere, unable to locate it No need for anxiety beginning a journey, it's lots of fun, enjoy the ride, the bumps and errors during the ride, are necessary for advancement. PS I would keep in my album, under North Borneo, a fun curiosity. Do not discard. The real postage stamp is North Borneo Sc#60 1894 2c rose and black "Malayan Sambar" |

Welcome and you are a collector. You may not be a world class philatelist, but you have stamps, you look at them, have questions, you enjoy it…..you are in the club and none can tell you otherwise. |

Athos, Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ |

Of course you're a collector! It's funny, I'm also a runner, and I see a similar thought from people who just got into it or run casually or slowly or whatever. They say, "Oh, I'm not really a runner". Do you run, jog, or whatever you prefer to call it? Cool. You're a runner.
It's good to see that the same goes here.

Athos... With a million questions, it shouldn't take very long before you reach 50 posts. It is possible that one or more of your questions has been asked here previously, SEARCH is your friend. |
