Just Realized Haven't Introduced Myself Here Yet!

I'm a beginner collector of stamps just from a collection I inherited. Born and raised oregon girl here. The person who left me these stamps truly believed he was sitting on a big chunk of change but I've spent last 10 months give or take looking into them. Its a very hard and confusing collection to do. I plan on selling everything I have hopefully! I'd rather stick to my coins but trying to learn what all I got. All mostly US 1910-1950s stamps,some newer,airmail,postage owed, and a smaller amount of ones from all over . Glad to be apart of this forum though!

Regardless of the financial value or lack thereof in you stamps their true value is in the source of the material and the fact it was gifted to you for your enjoument.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Hopefully with some more knowledge I'll have a change of heart, I've been really trying and putting alot of time into learning and feel like I've gotten nowhere lol. I've just always been the type of person that if I dont use things often or get to enjoy some then I get rid of it. Total opposite of a hoarder here lol..i use the coin site like this and have had alot of help so hopefully itll be the same here. Just hard when I dont know what to even ask or where to start really lol

It sounds like your committed to selling them, but if you were hoping to enjoy stamp collecting but found it difficult to gain traction, maybe your spreading your focus too wide for now. I think that can happen when someone is gifted a lot of stamps. If you want to experience the fun and enjoyment others get from stamp collecting you may want to consider narrowing your focus to a theme (such as coins on stamps, but there is no limit to collectable themes), a location (such as covers postmarked in your hometown or state or stamps depicting a location), a time (such as the year of your birth), or to a type (such as just air mail stamps). It's all about whatever tickles your fancy. One other piece of advice, a disorganized collection can be difficult to enjoy, especially if they aren't organized in a way that allows you to easily look at them. In that case, a small investment in a stock book or two that allows you to organize them and to flip from page to page to look at and study their details, might help.
