I don't collect these as a rule, but I might start after viewing this auction. Massive and fascinating.

I do collect these, and I've never seen anything remotely near this in terms of quantity. It's exciting, but also annoying.

I think most cinderella collectors specialize in one area or another. I collect event and exhibition stamps. Others collect advertising stamps. Others are into military/ Delandre stamps. But a quick look at a number of the lots shows that they contain a mixture of the various types. If I buy a lot that is half exhibition stamps, then I have to figure out what to do with the advertising/military/charity stamps for which I have no use. I spoke to a dealer at a show once who was selling a couple albums of mixed cinderellas, and he told me that they were separated when he obtained them, but he mixed them up because he thought they sold better that way. Ugh!

I guess I'll just have to spend a few days combing through the listings looking for lots that are mostly exhibitions.

I see what you mean Stampdoc. It is pretty overwhelming. Have to say though that it is all fascinating to me. I just might dip my toes into the Cinderella water if I can score some lots really cheap.

"The Best Cinderella Collection Up For Sale in 100 years" I would agree with their statement .

I believe a lot of collectors will just enter a few hundred bids with a set amount like ,bidding $3.00 or $5.00 each on a few hundred lots , Sure there is going to be higher bids but with so many lots a shotgun approach is going to be the rule . Even if you want to spend $150.00 your going to do 25 different bids .

I have been looking through the lots and there is some amazing material in there that would be perfect for an exhibition, perhaps as supplementary items. Quite a few stamp exhibition related lots from the 1930's for WIPA and London etc. Beautiful and interesting at the same time.

Example:

I'm still working my way through the lots, but I've bid on about 75 lots so far - mostly in the $7-$15 range, a few in the $100-$200 range for the rare items. But the total number of lots is just so overwhelming, I'll probably reach my spending limit before the end of the auction. I suspect that will happen to a number of other collectors as well and I won't be surprised to see lots selling for just a couple dollars. I think Old Louis might have perhaps brought in more money for all these if they had split the material up over a few auctions over the course of a year, to avoid bidder fatigue.

Although I have found a number of lots that are mostly or all event/exhibition material, I'm still distressed by the mixing of different types of cinderellas in many of the lots - even worse, with the groupings of 20 or so stamps, they have often overlapped the stamps so much that you can't see the date, or if there is one.

I think that I am going to bid live and see what I can pick up. There is just so much to view. There are some great lots with sets that feature zeppelins and 1930's trains/planes/automobiles. Also amazingly engraved GB/BC stamps with beautiful subject matter and colors. I am falling in love with a new area to collect.

STAMPDOC -----My plan is to bid on more stuff than what I plan to spend . I did that in the past where they had a lot of nice collections I wanted . Bid on 12 lots and ended up with three .I am sure if you spread you bids out with high and low bids you should end up with something ,sometimes you end up with the lower bids and the one's you were sure of with high bids just ran away price wise .

Just took a look through the catalog on SAN and every lot that I saw has bidding going on. Quite a few are in the few dollars range, but some have already started to show some spirited bidding. With over two weeks to go this should be interesting. I have a feeling that my hopes of picking up some lots for really cheap might be gone.

Although I personally have no plans to bid, I assumed right away that nothing was likely to go cheap. This type of sale brings a lot of people out of the woodwork, and prices are likely to be strong across the board. This should be thought of as a specialized "name" sale, and there will likely be strong bidding from many parts of the world.

The auction starts tomorrow, and the bidding is getting pretty competitive for most of the lots. See you there!

The first day was impressive with 59 bidders and all lots sold. The most expensive lot went for $200.
