Hi all,

I am still building a reference library for myself, and I'm trying to determine the proper catalogues to collect for these countries:

Norway (most important)
Sweden
Germany (if Michel, which cat specifically?)
France (if Y&T, which cat specifically?)

Also, any other European countries that had local/private post stamps… I do have two catalogues for Denmark, so I am good there.

I already have a few good Russian catalogues for Zemstvos, but not many Zemstvos… they're surprisingly expensive.

Thanks in advance for any help! I have been acquiring these items for years, but I thought that if I could get hold of the catalogues, I'd be able to appreciate them so much more…

Barry

Hi Barry,
not aware of any for Norway.

For the "Bypost" I use Wiki, they have a nice selection.

Hi Barry,

Vintage (ie: pre 1900) Stanley Gibbons catalogues had information on locals.

E Hurt & L & N Williams did a volume on locals in the 1940s.

Surely there would be more modern productions?

Hi Barry,

This German site appears to be very useful as an overview of Norwegian locals:

https://nordische-staaten.de/index.html?https://nordische-staaten.de/laende.../bypost.html

It's in German and I've not looked at it in detail but I found out about it from a recommendation on Evert Klaseboer's site.

My favourite catalogue of regular Norwegian stamps is the excellent Norgeskatalogen which is in Norwegian and English.

However, I've not seen any reference in my old catalogue or the publisher's web site to anything about local stamps.

I believe the Swedish Facit catalogues include information on at least some Swedish and Finnish locals in certain editions.

My old Facit Special 2008 catalogue includes references to coverage of Swedish local postage stamps in the Facit Sverige 2008 edition and Swedish local revenue stamps in the Facit Special 2005 edition.

There may have been additional or updated sections in more recent catalogues.

I see that the Facit Special Classic 2022 catalogue has a new section on the Finnish local stamps from the Helsinki City Post and the Tampere City Post.

My last suggestion is for Germany and that is Michel's German local posts catalogue from 2005/6 which is in two volumes and is in German.

Volume 1 (2005) covers the issues from the late nineteenth century.

I think it's out of print at the moment so maybe there will be a new edition at some point. I have an old edition and it's very useful.

Volume 2 (2006) covers the modern German locals and it's still on the Michel web site:
