When returning to the hobby, with a passion, about ten years ago I purchased stamp inventory software. First I went through the laborious process of inventorying everything mounted since I was 14. Passing quickly to the present day the pictured stamp is the 100,000th stamp I have mounted. Totally coincidental but adding to the cool factor that #100 was number 100,000 Major milestone for my hobby.

Way to go Wheelman. Has been my goal for quite awhile. I am at around 97,500. I am getting close. I have all my stamps ticked off in a set of Scott Catalogs, so I probably won't know exactly when I get there, unless I transfer all my ticks to your software. |

Not many collectors ever make it to 100,000 all different . How rare is that ? maybe 1 out of 1,000 .
If your next goal is 200,000 all different then it has to be 1 out of a five million of worldwide collectors .
Don't even think of the next goal above the 200 K level at 300,000 all different ,all mounted . Unless you got plenty of money and a lot of free time . I believe there will be maybe 2 or 3 people who will ever hit close to that number . |

Stamp collecting is an individual pursuit. I have no doubt that there are a lot of collectors out there with really big numbers. I personally know collectors that are well into six figures. One has zero online presence, other than buying on ebay. His shelves of green binders are staggering. Another posts occasionally in the upside-down stamp community, but is otherwise invisible.
Now, you have to allow for postmarks, pages with identified fakes, South American paper varieties, locals, revenues, etc., including write-ups across dozens of catalogues. If we need to measure this by spaces in Blue or Brown albums, that's a different limitation.
I would hope that I could have 40 more years to follow that same path, but any guess of eventual totals is completely speculative. I'm pretty specific in my interests, so the KGV portion of my collection may never hit 50,000, much less 100,000. |
