*just Inherited Stamps*

Hello!
I'm not sure if these are worth anything, but I attached a page from each booklet. Looks like it was started in the 1950's...does anyone know of a reputable stamp collector in Los Angeles or surrounding areas where I can take the book to be evaluated?

I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions.

I am sorry to say those British stamps are the commonest stamps from common sets. Unless there are watermark - or some other - varieties, they will have very little monetary value.

Yes, a typical child's album from the period. Most of these are best kept as a memento or given away.

Watermarks, perforation, and other philatelic terms can be found in the "glossary" in the left side column.
I'm not sure you can look for watermarks on your own.
I hope that, as you asked, someone here can direct you to a reputable stamp dealer/collector in Los Angeles or the surrounding areas.

Those British stamps were printed on paper with a watermark - a compression of the paper pulp -: some kind of cipher used by the monarch - GvR, E8R or GviR - with a crown above it. If you have the stamp lying face up, the top of the crown should be pointing upward and the cipher reads from left to right. You can best see the watermark from the back against a black background. Then, the cipher reads from right to left.

If this watermark is oriented any other way, it can be worth something. However, most of these stamps were also issued in booklets that had half the stamp panes with the upright watermark and half the stamp panes with the inverted watermark. Those, usually, are not worth a lot.

Superficially, they appear to be common stamps. As NSK says, there are occasionally uncommon or even rare stamps that hide in plain sight because of small differences that go unnoticed by most people.

Unless someone is willing to put in the time to learn about the variations (and invest the money to buy reference material), those varieties just keep circulating around until they get recognized, if they ever do.

So, it is safe to say that they appear to be exceptionally common, though it is possible that one or another of them is not common. Highly unlikely, though.

As one indication of the thought that went into assembling the albums, the British stamps are on a page intended for issues for the Levant. Someone was just filling blank pages. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

This looks like a schoolboy collection where the investment was low, so this is reflected in the value.The UK stamps look like they have been taken from personal mail and while its always possible there is a hidden gem its like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Have a thick skin, because most dealers will be pretty dismissive of these. Hopefully, most won't be outright rude, but, you could see a little bit of that.

You'll see that some dealers will have banker's boxes for sale for $10, $20, $30-ish dollars that might have several of these types of albums, along with some old reference material, pages from old albums, envelopes full of stamps. Some people like to buy these types of "variety" boxes.

If they aren't interesting to you, perhaps there is a kid in your orbit who would find them interesting?
