For comparison of color, and to show how deep it is, I'll place it next to a 178 that is relatively common.

I figured it would be okay to keep this in the same thread, seeing as how it's staying on the same topic.
What are your thoughts on this essayk?

This is an interesting thread! I ASSUMED the banknote silk threads would be similar/same as the revenue silk threads, per my previous post. I am learning a lot about something that I knew little about! And, Stephen-P, your photos are a goldmine!!! Thanks.

Thank you for those kind words Mootermutt! That is genuinely encouraging to hear.
In forums like these, there are people that know either "too little" or "too much" about many different topics, so this vastness of information can easily become intermingled and confusing at times, no doubt about it.
It certainly requires a large degree of specificity on my part when posting here, but it's nice to have a solid community to go through all the weeds with!

Sorry for the delay, had to do some traveling.

Based on the photos of your stamp's reverse (2c vermilion), it certainly looks like silk paper to me. Seeing evidence of these or other similar fibers on the obverse would cinch it, but I am aware of how difficult that can be to show. Nonetheless, if you felt the need to get it certified, the PF has a discount rate for lower grade material submitted to them.

Will do Don! I still have a lot more to search through so I'll bundle them all together and let you know the outcome.
I would be lost without all the support here. Very thankful for this forum!
