Hello:

I have these two France 40c (Scott 59) stamps. Trying to confirm both are type 1? My eyes have crossed. Your expertise is appreciated.

Nora.

To me, those both look like type I (Yvert 38). The "4" on the type II (Yvert 38d) is noticeably more "squat", as the left bar of the 4 extends further left. And type I much more common.

Nice GC cancels - Doubs (2743) and Moselle (631).

Thanks! I totally misread the PC/GC site this morning (shouldn't try using it before coffee).

Inspired - and who can fail to be - by Nora, I unearthed my copies of Yvert 38. I didn't spot a 38d, although my eyesight is useless and Yvert's images aren't much better. However, I did find what I think is a copy of Yvert 38c.

Lovely Geoff. I like seeing all of the range of colors - not that I can tell which is orange vs. orange yellow etc. and then there is the question of paper color. The challenge is fun. :)
