To me, those both look like type I (Yvert 38). The "4" on the type II (Yvert 38d) is noticeably more "squat", as the left bar of the 4 extends further left. And type I much more common.
Inspired - and who can fail to be - by Nora, I unearthed my copies of Yvert 38. I didn't spot a 38d, although my eyesight is useless and Yvert's images aren't much better. However, I did find what I think is a copy of Yvert 38c.
Lovely Geoff. I like seeing all of the range of colors - not that I can tell which is orange vs. orange yellow etc. and then there is the question of paper color. The challenge is fun. :)
