Analysis Of A Grill On A #65 And Direction For Getting It Expertized

I have this fairly nice stamp and am hoping to get some confirmation here that it is in fact a C grill or ???? I know there are limitations to imaging and that this is a big ask, but I trust that some useful direction may be obtained here on this forum.

Further complicating the analysis is the fact that the stamp is on cover and for that reason I am unable to show the back side of the stamp. I tried to get a side view but did not achieve a good result. My thinking is that the ink from the pen cancel show a vertical ridge which I think is an indication that the grill is up from the back as opposed to down on the stamp. On top of all of that it is a fairly faint grill and that complicates it identification. At least for my old eyes.

If this is in fact a C grill, it would be a Scott # 83, the other grills also have different catalogue numbers.

I think it is unlikely to be a C grill, it does not seem large enough. Also the A and C grills were usually pretty strongly impressed. Much more likely that this is either an E or F grill.

A "C-grill" is points up. This grill is not

I counted 11x17 points from this photo.

Closest grill to that is an F grill.

I am going to attend the Sarasota National Stamp Exhibition this coming weekend and will ask a few people there what their thoughts are on this and other covers I will take them.

I believe that is a great idea! This needs a hands-on identification; and it does look like a very nice stamp. Please keep us informed if you get some result

The experimental grills (A, B, C, D, Z) are usually (I hate to say always, but it's always) found in a dull rose shade. With the color of this one, it can really only be an E or F grill.

So, for those looking for the tougher grills, keep in mind that if it's a bright shade, it can't be what you're looking for.
